1968: My first book was published by City Lights: POEMS TO FERNANDO. I had a little apartment in North Beach, San Francisco, and gave readings around town, including the ones called Noon Forever on the steps of City Hall with the Diggers. At some point that year I left California with Lenore Kandel for Maui, Hawaii.
Now: Since 1968 I've had ten books published, and have traveled and performed across four continents. I have walked through the Andes, the Himalayas, the Vysoke Tatra in Slovakia, the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, and the Catskills in New York State, where I make my home. I have worked for years teaching poetry and creative writing in schools and prisons in America. My latest book is a non-fiction account of my travels: TRAVELING WITH THE SPIRIT: A WOMAN'S JOURNEY.
